{"id":1426,"date":"2024-03-25T18:21:42","date_gmt":"2024-03-25T10:21:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.prohuntsingapore.com\/?p=1426"},"modified":"2024-03-25T18:21:42","modified_gmt":"2024-03-25T10:21:42","slug":"record-high-numbers-of-young-people-are-on-zero-hours-contracts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prohuntsingapore.com\/zh\/record-high-numbers-of-young-people-are-on-zero-hours-contracts\/","title":{"rendered":"Record high numbers of young people are on zero-hours contracts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number of young workers on zero-hours contracts has reached a new record high, according to a study from The Work Foundation thinktank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report analysed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/url.uk.m.mimecastprotect.com\/s\/oDNmCxGQGURk6YXCYufQ3?domain=ons.gov.uk\">data from the Office for National Statistics<\/a>&nbsp;to find that 136,000 more&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hrmagazine.co.uk\/content\/news\/number-of-uk-workers-worried-about-job-loss-doubles\/\" target=\"_blank\">workers<\/a>&nbsp;were given zero-hours contracts in April to June 2023 compared with the same period in the previous year. More than half (65%) of the new contracts were given to people aged 16 to 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One in 10 (13%)&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hrmagazine.co.uk\/content\/news\/young-employees-unprotected-by-employment-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\">young workers<\/a>&nbsp;in the UK were on zero-hours contracts in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Work Foundation\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Insecure Work Index&nbsp;<\/em>found that around three quarters (73.5%) of people aged 16 to 65 who are currently on zero-hours contracts in the UK are in severely&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hrmagazine.co.uk\/content\/news\/insecure-work-left-millions-vulnerable-to-covid-says-tuc\/\" target=\"_blank\">insecure work<\/a>, meaning that they face contractual and financial insecurity, and a lack of access to rights and protections.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The number of young workers on zero-hours contracts has reached a new record high, according to a study from The Work Foundation thinktank.
